Q10 ist eine körpereigene Substanz. Wir nehmen sie zum Teil über die Nahrung auf, zum Teil produziert unser Körper auch selbst Q10. Doch die Eigenproduktion von Q10 nimmt im Laufe des Lebens kontinuierlich ab.
Im Körper findet man hohe Q10-Konzentrationen in Organen mit einem hohen Energiebedarf wie Herz, Leber oder Lunge.

Der Körperbestand an Q10 wird auf etwa 0,5 bis 2 g geschätzt. Die tägliche Nahrung liefert täglich 5 bis 10 mg Coenzym Q10.
In der Nahrung ist Q10 besonders reichhaltig in Fleisch, Fisch (Sardinen, Makrelen), Nüssen (z. B. Pistazien), Vollkorngetreide, Hülsenfrüchten, Sesamsamen, Sonnenblumenkernen und Pflanzenölen enthalten.
